Watched this at my mate's house. It was such a bullet header I I cheeed for about half a second before I realised what he'd done.

It was undoubtedly the finest goal Dowie scored while playing for us!

The poor bloke then broke his leg in the same game.

I was there in the pouring rain. Yet another cup debacle in the annals of our history.

Dowie is one of the worst footballers I've ever seen...He certainly makes my worst WH squad of all time

Dowie is nowhere near one of our worst players ever.

Weather and pitch tonight the same as 1996

Re: Stockport 18th December 1996......
Wasn’t it all the more ironic because he had gone about 22 games without scoring before this game?

Harry always used to say he didn’t understand it because Dowie had been “Prolific all week during training”

Re: Stockport 18th December 1996......
Wasn’t the rumour that he just forgot what he was doing. Saw the ball and instinct set in and he rammed it home. A proper strikers technique and header into corner.

The look of utter bewilderment on Dowie's face after he slams it home is something I'll never forget.

He has never looked so ugly

After that Stockport game Dowie didn’t appear at all for 2 months. Surprised?
His next appearance was late Feb as a sub in the 4-3 night game v Spurs (Hartson Kitson Dicks 2)

that makes painful watching

I was there at the 4-3 win vs spurs - that on the other hand was fantastic watching

Its hilarious now..
at the time most were more perplexed than angry.
Classic WHU Hall of shamer
The ultimate for me though was Oldham Pathetic on the plastic pitch in the League Cup semi - final first leg.

Re: Stockport 18th December 1996......
I was at that Oldham match, and their plastic pitch helped them no end. Especially in the extremely wet conditions, the ball behaved in very odd way.

All demonstrated by our (insufficiently emphatic) victory in the second leg.

Re: Stockport 18th December 1996......
They would have owned our cockney asses on any pitch that night.

The home 3-0?.. If you have a six goal advantage it isn't surprising really is it.

we also folded against Luton Town in similar circumstances.. So you may have a point and I'm chatting shite as per

It's Ludo's glare at Dowie after the ball has sailed past him into the top corner that I always remember. Looked like he was about to rip his fucking head off, which is how most of us felt!
